Almost Summer
Sun and longer days—ah, yes—summer.
At this time of year, here’s what’s bringing a smile to my face…I wonder what is “doing it” for you:
❤️ seeing a red fox saunter across our grass area, stopping under our plum tree to scratch its ear, then continuing its trotting into our lower garden and beyond 🦊
💚 watching and listening to the menagerie of birds at our feeders and baths
💙 stopping on the road to let a doe and her two fawns safely cross the street
🧡 walking with friends and serendipitously encountering other friends along the way 🚶🏻♀️🚶♂️
💗 meeting some new folks at a knitting group at our local library🧶
💜 enjoying the World Cup with all the colors of flags, anthems of each country and over-the-top exuberant fans ⚽️
🩵 using my hands and imagination to create a fabric collage of our valley scene and a doll, the first in a long time 😊
💛 appreciating food provided by others—John cooking (yay!) some NY Times recipes , friends delivering “we made too much, would you like some pasta🍝,” having friends on our deck for a good rosé and crackers and cheese 🧀 made at our local Carmel Valley Creamery
💚 seeing the slow turn of our plums from green to pink to soon-to-be red
💙 arranging all the rainbowed colored summer flowers🌸🌼🌺
🧡 sitting in the sun ☀️
💓 and giving thanks for…

And you? What is bringing you a little bit, or a lot, of joy, these longer days? I hope much.
You observations were wonderful this time especially. They remind me a bit in tone of Mary Oliver’s « Summer. ». Are you familiar with it? I miss seeing you poke your head in after the Monday Spanish zoom. Evenings on your deck sound idyllic. My patio is nice, but not idyllic. Love to you both.

Ahhhh….what a lovely description of summer in beautiful Carmel Valley.
We too had a cute little fox back on San Juan Island that used to wander through the property daily also stopping under our plum tree. The dogs would bark and bark and the little cutie would just look their way, scratch his head and usually pee….cracked me up always. Here, I hope to see a moose wander by someday!
Enjoy this lead into summer. It sounds like I will miss you on my visit 7-8 to 7-18. If plans change and you are home, let me know so I can come pick a plum or two. Love and hugs Archers.
