A Good Hair Day
While visiting a friend in Palm Springs recently, I had an “interesting” day. Throughout the day, three different people told me my hair was beautiful and asked if it were natural—ah, yes, I answered, both in curl and color. One even asked if she could take a photo to show her hairdresser. Another “yes,” and I then introduced her to my hair dresser—my husband.
SO…what was all that about? Did my hair look better than usual? Was it the desert air that made my curl just right? Was it the new shampoo I had used that morning?
No matter what, it made me appreciate my hair even more than I already had and thankful to others for being so openly complimentary. And it made me buy that shampoo for home!
That night, when we attended a musical performance, the beat went on. Can you guess what musical we saw? “Hair!” Ok, serendipity—we’ve got this!
Since I had seen it on Broadway in 1968. being at the show this time ‘round brought up many memories and emotions, a mini-life review of Then and Now. It made me feel a wave of compassion for my younger self and reflect on where our country was in the late 60’s—at war, in turmoil, protesting for justice, love and peace. And it made me think about our country now, wrestling with similar issues.
If only we could, as one of “Hair’s” signature songs implores, “Let the Sunshine In”
“Then peace will guide the planets
And love will steer the stars.”
Yes…If only…Now THAT would be a REALLY good Hair day!
