Harvesting Words 💛

I love short quotes that seem to “say it all.” I have quite a collection of them, having saved them since high school.
I remember an innkeeper in Door County, Wisconsin, who used to place a quote at each guest’s place setting for breakfast. It was such a nice touch of added nourishment to the meal.
I could see doing something similar at Thanksgiving. One could make one’s own quote cards or purchase ready-made ones, like Thoughtfulls Pop-Open Cards, made by Compendium. I have a box of them called “Life is Beautiful” with quotes based on that theme. For example, the one I just took out of the box says, “Live as if everything is rigged in your favor.” (Rumi)
Another source of possible meal quote-sharing is the Italian chocolate/hazelnut candy called Baci, which means “kisses” in Italian (and is also the name of our VW van!). Each “kiss” is wrapped in thin paper which has printed on it a quote in both English and Italian. A nice double sweetness—chocolate and words…plus, a little Italian lesson! The one I received last night translated to “Even the stones placed in one’s path can be made into something beautiful.”
And so, here are just a few of my favorite quotes:
💛 “Simplicity, simplicity, simplicity.” Henry David Thoreau
💛 “Tell me what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?” Mary Oliver
💛 “Even if I knew that tomorrow this world would go to pieces, I would still plant my apple tree.” Martin Luther
💛 “This is a wonderful day. I’ve never seen this one before.” Maya Angelou
💛 ”She said she usually cried at least once each day not because she was sad, but because the world was so beautiful and life was so short.” Brian Andreas
💛 “There are shortcuts to happiness and dancing is one of them.” Vicki Baum
💛 ”Let it be a dance.” Ric Masten
💛 ”Kiss the joy as it flies.” Rainer Maria Rilke
💛“Be joyful, though you have considered all the facts.” Wendell Berry
💛 “By going and coming, a bird weaves its nest.” Ashanti proverb
💛 “Enough is as good as a feast.” Sir Thomas Malory
💛 “We are all just walking each other home.” Ram Dass
💛 “Life—what an exquisite privilege.” Katie Rubenstein
SO…there you have it! A mini-dip into my collection. If you have any favorite quotes, I would love to hear them.
As we approach Thanksgiving, I want to thank you for continuing to join me in this “Bring Joy to the Table” exploration. Grazie Mille!♥♥ May you have a lovely Thanksgiving🧡
