musings about food, travel, creativity and life

Yay, Spring!

As the world continues to wonder “what next?” Spring brings signs of new life. The hills are all shades of green, every yellow daffodil and Gerbera daisy is open and shining bright, and two juncos are caring for two eggs in a nest they built in one of our planters.   Thank you, nature, for your show of energy, strength and renewal.

And our little valley community is alive and well with a fun monthly market of local artisans with their creations for sale, and baby goats (!) for hugging, at our just-down-the-hill Carmel Valley Creamery.

The Creamery, featured in the most recent New York Times “36 Hours-in-Carmel” article, has become our favorite place for great coffee, on-site-created artisan cheese, and a very friendly ambiance.  Yay!

And at this time of year, so many green edible treasures appear…like fresh artichokes and Artichoke Pesto, with almond and basil, from nearby Pezzini Farms.  Very good!  And I recently prepared a family favorite of asparagus topped with over-easy fried eggs and Parmesan cheese.  With a little Ad Astra Bread Co. Ciabatta bread dipped in olive oil from  Quail and Olive, we had a mighty fine, simple and locally-sourced evening meal.  Add a ceramic bunny to the table and all is good!

Plus, for other kinds of inspiration, there are, as always, so many fine books to read—or reread.  I just reread a favorite vintage (1942) bunny book called The Runaway Bunny, by Margaret Wise Brown with pictures by Clement Hurd.  If you’re in a bookstore or a library and want a sweet quick read about a Mommy Rabbit and her little bunny, take a look-see.

And another book I am enjoying is Today I Noticed: A Little Book of Mindfulness That Will Change the Way You See the World, by Willow Older and Deborah Huber.  It’s a fun illustrated journal of what paying attention to one’s world can yield.

And so, dear readers, I hope you are finding natural beauty, good food, and inspiring books and bunnies to nurture you, bring you joy, and give you hope.  💛

                                                                                                         💛
